What’s happened so far …

As you can tell from the web address, my name is Gail Dickson and for the last 30+ years I have lived in Scotland in the UK. From the first time I travelled abroad I always knew that I wanted to live somewhere else and finally in 2007 I am about to live that dream.
My husband (Bobby), 4 year old son (Kyle), 3 month old daughter (Regan) and I are due to move to Auckland in New Zealand on 25th April to start a new life down under. This blog will document what I’m up to so that my friends and family know what’s going on ….
So what’s happened so far then? Well …. as of today, I am now jobless, carless and about to be homeless.
Jobless …. officially resigned from Convergys at the end of February (although I was on maternity leave so haven’t actually been working since mid December). Just sorting out holidays, final end date etc now but have handed back the dreaded Blackberry and laptop so am officially not working anymore. Bobby says that I’m going to get withdrawal symptoms with no BB but so far so good …
Carless …. have now sold my Evo 8 and Bobby is about to sell his car tomorrow. Feels a bit weird not having a car after all this time but Bobby is already planning what he wants to buy when we get there.
Homeless …. we managed to sell our house the first day it was on the market and missives have been concluded. Entry date is the 20th April so we are now trying to declutter as the container is getting packed next week.
I’m not panicking yet but the realisation of what we are doing is dawning … and it’s a bit scary! We have organised a hotel for the first two weeks and I’m trying to look for rental accommodation for the first 6 months but it’s not easy from the other side of the world so I think that’s going to have to wait until we get there. We haven’t got jobs and without jobs or a house, there is no point looking for a nursery for Kyle and Regan as we don’t know where to look! I think it may be a bit busy when we arrive …
